About the function:
The Computational Biology Support Team makes use of the on-site High Performance Computing facility to provide bio-statistical data analysis for the Institute's research programmes. The service draws on the most advanced methodologies for analysis of DNA-, RNA-, ChIP-seq, proteomics and bio-molecular imaging technologies.
We are pursuing a Senior Computational Biologist to join our Computational Biology Support Team to assist in the analysis of a range of high-throughput genomics data generated by our on-site next generation sequencing (NGS) services, as well as publically available databases, e.g. The Cancer Genome Atlas. You will utilise open-source and custom-built software tools and contribute to the building of automated workflows in data processing.
About you:
You should have at least a degree in a Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, Mathematics (or related discipline) plus significant significant practice. A background in analysing NGS data sets and demonstrable practice in performing QC of sequence, alignment and variant data is essential. expertise of biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or cancer cell biology is desirable.

On the 26thApril 2017 The Paterson Building, which housed most of the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Manchester Institute, caught fire resulting in significant damage. We shall be rebuilding our world-class research facilities and we would like to make you aware that in the meantime, the primary place of work for this position will beat the internationally-renowned life sciences campus at Alderley Park, which hasexcellent facilities to carry out research. We anticipate that this will be for a few years, after which we will return to our original site in Withington, Manchester, next to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (Wilmslow Road, M20 4BX).
