School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Technician to work at the University of Aberdeen, in the laboratory of Dr. Berndt Müller and Dr. Jonathan Pettitt.
This BBSRC funded research program aims to elucidate the mechanism underlying spliced leader trans-splicing, an essential nematode-specific gene expression process. This research will inform therapeutic strategies to fight parasitic nematodes that pose significant threats to human and animal health. We will use cutting-edge technology including genome editing, proteomics and RNA-seq to (1) determine the molecular composition of RNA-protein complexes critical for spliced leader trans-splicing; and (2) define the functions of newly identified protein factors. We have partnered with Prof Michael Sattler (Technical University Munich), a leading expert in structural biology, for the detailed analysis of molecular interactions. This comprehensive, multifaceted approach will provide detailed insight into a critical aspect of nematode molecular biology, with clear implications for the development of new treatments for parasitic nematode infections.
The prosperous candidate should be a skilled, practiced and ambitious individual. We are seeking for an enthusiastic individual with good technical abilities. Training will be given for specialise techniques. They should be able to keep excellent records of experimental detail and results and be able to analyse and interpret data. They should be able to work on their own using their own initiative to plan and execute experimental work, and also in a team with others.
income will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 income scale (£28,332 per annum).
Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 12 month probation period.
