An exciting opportunity has arisen to Manage the CRUK Centre at Imperial. Under the direction of Professor Ara Darzi, the CRUK Imperial Centre has the ambition to drive convergence research by bringing together cancer researchers and engineers/ physical scientists to develop the next generation of technologies and methodologies to tackle the biggest problems in cancer. this function is crucial to ensure that the research objectives of the CRUK Imperial Centre are achieved. You will support the Director in the development and implementation of the Centre's research strategy. A key deliverable is the implementation of cross-disciplinary collaborations and you will support these through the delivery of workshops, events and managing the Centre's Development Fund.
To excel in this function, you will need to work across all faculties in Imperial College to facilitate cross disciplinary collaborations. You will work closely with the operations and scientific teams in the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, the cancer-related Biomedical Research Centre themes, the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre and the Prostate Cancer UK Movember Centre as well as cancer initiatives across College, including the Cancer Technologies Network. You will interact with other partners in cancer research, including the CRUK Centre for Convergence Science, a strategic partnership between Imperial College and the Institute of Cancer Research.
You will support the Centre Director in ensuring the effective and efficient running of the CRUK Centre and the programmes which fall under its umbrella in conjunction with the significant Management Teams. You will act as a key point of contact for CRUK Centre appointed staff for matters relating to Research Services, Human Resources and Finance.
The appointee will have a thorough knowledge and working knowledge of the HTA regulations, NRES approved research tissue banking, quality management and quality assurance for biological material. The appointee will develop and manage a business plan to ensure the long-term success of the bank.
candidates should demonstrate how they meet the essential criteria required of this post, and in particular, hold a PhD in a significant subject (e.g. biomedical sciences or engineering / physical science with biological / healthcare application), have detailed knowledge of cancer research in the UK and internationally, knowledge of biomedical research translational pathways and also of biomedical and engineering/ physical science research funding opportunities available to UK researchers.
This post is full time, fixed-term until 31st March 2022 and renewable in line with the Centre award.
