This EU-Interreg funded 36 months post is available from February 2020to support the work of Dr Philipp Thies on a research project as part of Interreg France (Channel) England funded project called 'Tidal Stream Industry Energiser Project' (TIGER).
The post
This post will contributeto the planning, preparation and execution of the numerical modelling and site resource assessment of the tidal energy sites under investigation in this project. The numerical modelling will be conducted in Delft 3D software, incorporating and validating a range of modelled and measured data, in close collaboration with research team members and project partners. The prosperous applicant will be involved in an inter-disciplinary team and be a strong team player.

About you
candidates will:
   » possess a significant PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent qualification/practice in a related field of study
   » possess specialist expertise in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies
   » having practice in the Offshore Renewable sector and/or the site characterisation / design / testing of tidal turbines would be beneficial, but is not essential
   » be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required
   » be able toformulate offshore engineering design problems, have a demonstrable practice in using specialist software, e.g. Delft 3D or similar software tools and are excellent data analystswith a drive for applied engineering challenges
   » at PDRF level, will be a nationally recognised authority inthe subject area of Oceanography / Offshore Engineering / Computational modelling
