Join one of the country's leading Clinical Trials Units
The MRC Clinical Trials Unit at University College London is amongst the country's foremost clinical trials units and is a centre of excellence for carrying out challenging and innovative studies, and developing and implementing new methodologies. The Unit undertakes world-class research, and we are committed to strengthening and expanding the evidence base for healthcare both nationally and internationally, delivering innovative and novel research that can really make a difference.
Within the MRC CTU, the United Kingdom Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS) trial was set up to provide the definitive answer as to whether ovarian cancer screening impacts on mortality. The trial reported the initial mortality result in December 2015 and is now in the long term follow up phase.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic research adjunct, to play a central function in this ground-breaking clinical trial as well as other case-control and cohort studies continuing in the research group.
The grant funding for this function runs to 31 Jan 2021.
This post is an integral part of the follow-up phase. Working alongside the UKCTOCS Data Manager and Trial Manager, the function will involve collection of volunteer health records from primary, secondary and tertiary care through liaising with health record data holders (e.g. hospital access to health records departments and GP surgeries). The post-holder will collate these notes, highlighting significant information relating to cancer diagnosis and treatment, prepare them for review by the UKCTOCS independent results Reviews Committee (ORC). The diagnosis determined by the ORC will form the basis of the UKCTOCS final mortality results.
this function involves working within a multi-disciplinary team in the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL. The postholder will also be involved in working on other UKCTOCS case control sub-studies and surveys exploring menopausal symptoms management.
The prosperous candidates will have an enthusiastic approach, excellent communication expertise, and proven capability to organise, prioritise and work to deadlines. Prior practice working in ovarian cancer and trials would be advantageous. Practical practice of database entry and interpretation of medical notes, practice of working with multi-disciplinary teams and preparing/presenting reports would be an advantage.
