We are seeking for competitive candidates who can demonstrate fluency in one or more AI techniques, have practice of software engineering, and have the drive to design and implement prototypes for real-world applications. practice with interactive media such as games or interactive narrative is desirable but not essential - we will prioritise AI practice and skill over practice with interactive media.

You will have a key function within the DC Labs as a Research Associate, working on applied AI with external organisations and partners to address questions such as such as ?How can we harness data and AI to understand human players and creativity??, ?How can we create more engaging and human-like AI agents??, or ?how can AI support creative processes in games and interactive media??. We encourage you to develop industrial partnerships to support and inform this work - DC Labs currently works with over 100 partners in games and screen-located media from small local video game manufacturers to large scale institutions such as BBC.
You will conduct individual and collaborative research projects in DC Labs from the perspective of Artificial Intelligence; your tasks to include: analysis and interpretation of research data; use of appropriate research techniques and methods; writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations and public engagement.
In terms of expertise and practice, you will have a PhD or equivalent practice. You will have a record of outputs and collaboration that points to a potential for excellent research. We encourage candidates from all areas of AI, including machine learning, rule-located reasoning, search, expertise representation, agent-located modelling, evolutionary algorithms, etc. The function advertised here is intentionally not limited to a particular set of AI techniques.
