The University of Nottingham is at the forefront of innovative research in propulsion electrification. It has recently been awarded significant funding to create a world-renowned manufacturing and testing centre for the advancement of electric propulsion for industry in their efforts towards lower emission travel.
As part of the university of Nottingham a well-supported commercial business unit focused on prototype machine manufacturing and in-house testing of industrial research machines has been developed.
A unique and exciting opportunity has arrived in this cutting-edge facility for a Senior Drives Testing Engineer as part of the testing team.
candidates are invited to the above exclusive post, which is located within the Powered Electronics Machine Centre at Nottingham's Jubilee Campus.
The post holder will be part of a highly skilled technical team supporting the activities of the business unit and will work with other technical and commercial staff to provide a professional testing service for the characterisation and verification of electrical machines and equipment.
tasks will include:
   » Electrical and mechanical testing of prototype motors and generators including their connected powered electronic drives.
   » The setup of test stands in readiness to carry out the testing campaigns.
   » The operation and monitoring of test stands for testing campaigns.
   » Supporting the business unit in both electrical and mechanical tasks, including installation works and maintenance.
   » Interpretation of electrical and mechanical drawings and consultation with other technical staff and customers on requirement.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of electrical systems and the installation of, including motor test stand setup practices and connected processes. Previous practice working within an electrical/ mechanical environment is essential.
A base knowledge of motor-generator test stand operation is expected but training will be given and will form an essential part of this function as the equipment is of a highly unique nature.
This is a full-time (36.25 hours) fixed-term post for 2 years . Job share arrangements may be considered.
