Job Description
The University of South Wales is appointing a Lecturer in Biomedical Science. Working as a member of the Biological and Forensic Science subject area, you will be part of the larger Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science.
located at the Pontypridd campus, with some overseas travel and work required, as noted below, the prosperous candidate will be expected to develop and deliver learning materials, and theoretical and applied practices with a particular focus on applied biochemistry and cell biology. Research practice in neuroscience or regenerative medicine would be desirable, but not essential.
A significant component of this function will be to deliver taught and practical content on the faculty's overseas partnership with Northwest Normal University (Lanzhou, Gansu Province of the People's Republic of China). The prosperous candidate will be required to periodically travel and work overseas, delivering teaching (English medium) in their subject area at key points of the year, to students studying BSc Medicinal and Biological Chemistry. The candidate will need to possess strong mentoring and pastoral care expertise. The practice of working/teaching overseas will be an advantage, as will working in a multicultural environment.
In addition, the candidate will also be required to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate students across the subject areas, including the design and delivery of undergraduate research projects in their field. The prosperous candidate will continue to engage with professional development ensuring their subject expertise and their teaching practices remain up-to-date and encompass best practice.
In addition to student interfacing activities, the function will require engagement in various academic administration processes related to quality assurance and enhancement, as well as engagement by the candidate in marketing and recruitment activities.
In line with USW's 2030 Strategy the prosperous candidate would be expected to be involved in research and scholarly activity (which may be professional practice-located), and would continue this engagement to deliver evidence, practice, and/or research-located learning within the curriculum. It is expected that the candidate would engage with the activities of the accelerated development area of health and well-being and seek to collaborate internally and externally on significant projects.
The prosperous candidate will join a well-established team of staff in the subject area of Biological and Forensic Science and become part of the wider scientific community within the Faculty.
This position is located at the Pontypridd (Glyntaff) Campus of the University of South Wales, with periods of overseas work.
