Job location: West Cambridge

A position exists for a Research adjunct/Associate to design, fabricate and validate implantable bioelectronic devices as part of a NIHR funded project to develop a minimally invasive spinal cord stimulator system.
Background to the Project
Our capability to interface with the central nervous system is currently constrained by the absence of minimally invasive tools that can provide adequate access to select nerve tracts. This post will explore a new solution to this problem: a shape-actuated bioelectronic implant that can be implanted percutaneously in a rolled state and then unrolled inside the body to cover a large area. The primary aim of the project will be to finalize a functional prototype in partnership with an external manufacturer. The realization of this tool will enable wider spread use of spinal cord stimulation for pain management.
The prosperous candidate will have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD or equivalent in Engineering/Physical Sciences and practice in experimental techniques in at least 2 of the following:
   » Implantable medical devices
   » Organic electronics
   » Microfluidics
   » In vivo validation
   » Microfabrication
   » Neurostimulation
She/he will be able to function within a large team, coordinate with multiple partners and communicate across disciplines. He/she will have collaborated with clinical groups, have practice with in/ex vivo models and a strong publication record in significant journals.
The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research adjunct level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 8 months in the first instance.
income Ranges:
Research adjunct: £29,605 - £33,966
Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263
