Job Opportunity: Research Software Engineer:Job description:Job location: London, Hybrid About the function The position of Research Software Engineer (RSE) is key to the delivery of many of the core services of QMUL ITS Research. The RSE team are a centralised team within ITS Research, supporting researchers across the whole university. We are pursuing a research software engineer to support a research project at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science which sits at the intersection of natural language processing (NLP) and multi-modal machine learning, with applications in mental health led by Prof Maria Liakata. This is a one-year fixed term and part-time position (0.5 FTE). About You candidates should have an MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Natural Language Processing or related discipline. The function is to take prototypes developed by Prof. Liakata's group and produce high quality shareable libraries and tools. This RSE function requires someone confident in Python, (PyTorch, Huggingface, SpaCy) web development (Flask, Dash or Django) and PostgreSQL. About the Department ITS Research manages the University's High Performance Computing (HPC) systems (https://docs.hpc.qmul.ac.uk) and within this team, the RSEs support academic users on this service and on Tier2 HPC facilities. To promote the efficient use of these resources, the Research Software Engineers perform analysis and profiling of existing code, identification of the bottlenecks and suggestions of performance improvements.
