Applications are invited for an appointment as temporary, part-time (0.4) Lecturer in Film at the University of Galway, with an capability to teach aspects of: world cinema, Irish cinema, documentary film, and visual culture. This post is a specific purpose post to cover the temporary involvement of a staff member in a European Research Project for 11 months.
The Huston School of Film of Film and Digital Media was founded at University of Galway in 2003, and is situated within the School of English and Creative Arts. Its undergraduate BA in Film and Digital Media is a four-year programme that combines practice-located and lecture-located approaches to teaching and learning. The Huston also offers MA programmes and a structured PhD while also contributing to modules in English, Journalism and other subjects in the School of English and Creative Arts - including a BA subject Performance and Screen Studies offered in partnership with the discipline Drama, Theatre and Performance.
This post is being offered as a specific purpose contract to cover teaching of a staff member contributing to a European Research Project and will terminate by reason of the expiry of its specific purpose. It is anticipated that the duration of this assignment will be 11 months.
The prosperous candidate will have practice of university-level teaching and will be able to contribute to teaching in some or all of the following areas: World Cinema, Irish Cinema, Documentary, and Visual Culture.
A PhD in a significant area is an essential requirement as is a track record that indicates an capability to carry out administrative tasks connected with academic activity.

income:
59,801 to €95,401 pro rata p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
(This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy)
