Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher for 36 months to join the group of Dr Kanchon Dasmahapatra located in the Leverhulme Centre for Anthropocene Biodiversity, Department of Biology at the University of York. The Dasmahapatra Group focuses on using genomic data to understand speciation, introgression and adaptation. This full time post is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

This position is part of the NERC-funded project ?Adaptive introgression in the Anthropocene?, the main aim of which is to understand the prevalence and impact of gene flow between native and non-native flowering plant species in the British Isles making use of newly generated genome assemblies and large whole genome resequence datasets. The project involves working with other members of the Dasmahapatra group and collaborators Chris Thomas (University of York), Pete Hollingsworth and Markus Ruhsam (Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh), Alex Twyford and Simon Martin (University of Edinburgh), Mark Blaxter (Wellcome Sanger Institute) and Kevin Walker (Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland). The proposed start date is around August 2024.
expertise, practice & Qualification needed
We are seeking for a person with advanced bioinformatics expertise, including high levels of competency in genome analysis using data from high-throughput sequencing and population genomics.
   » A PhD in a significant area
   » Enthusiasm to understand evolutionary change and its implications in the Anthropocene
   » Strong bioinformatics expertise, particularly for the analysis of genomic data (Illumina and other high-throughput sequencing platforms)
   » practice of carrying out population genomic analyses
   » Comfortable with using R and Python, working on Linux, and using high performance compute clusters
