The School of Biological Sciences at the University of Reading is offering a graduate teaching adjunct (GTA) position. This position allows the candidate to register for a PhD that is fully funded through part-time teaching work with the University. The prosperous candidate will contribute to student learning in the School of Biological Sciences, undertake teaching activities and connected marking, and provide appropriate guidance and feedback to students as required. The candidate will register as a doctoral student and perform PhD studies under the supervision of Dr Andrew Bicknell.

The post is for a fixed period of 4 years during which the post holder must be registered as a full-time doctoral student and they will be paid a income and stipend equivalent to Research Councils' studentship rate (currently £19,237 per annum) and will have PhD fees waived at the home level (Please note that students liable for international fees will need to pay the difference between these and the home fee rate).

The PhD project will investigate neuropeptide signaling using the nematode C. elegans as a model. Neuropeptides are implicated in various physiological processes and are targets for therapeutic interventions aimed at covering various conditions. Eligibility:
   » A good (1st or 2.1) first degree in biological sciences or related subject and preferably a masters degree (either taught or by research) in a related discipline
   » A good expertise of cell/molecular biology and biochemistry with significant practical laboratory practice
   » An capability to communicate complex theories and ideas in an engaging way that is easy for students to understand
   » An capability to use initiative, work independently and complete tasks to deadlines
   » Commitment to high quality teaching and continuing professional development
