Applications are invited for the above position, which is a hybrid function with a pattern of two days located on campus per week, (to include Tuesday), plus remote working. The Legal Services team is part of the Registrar's Department, and it provides legal advice, support, and representation to and on behalf of the University.
The In-House Employment Lawyer will work alongside the University's General Counsel, providing specialist employment law advice, as part of the in-house Legal Services team and as a business partner to Human Resources. They will join a friendly, busy, and supportive legal team and will have the opportunity to undertake a complex and varied workload.
Candidates must be a Solicitor or Barrister employment law specialist with a current SRA or Bar Council registration to practise in England and Wales. They will also be practiced in advising on the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment work and will be confident as an Employment Tribunal advocate to at least preliminary hearing level. There will also be opportunities to develop or use skills in complementary areas of legal practice significant to the Higher Education sector and the work of the Legal Services team.
The function requires pro-active and timely management of case work, conducting ET cases, writing and delivering training, and engaging in a professional, responsive and collaborative way with clients and colleagues at all levels of seniority.
This is a permanent position. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
