The Team
The HR Team supports the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) operations, we provide a comprehensive and strategic HR service to the institute, including recruitment, tutor and casual workers contracting, employment relations, change management and general HR administration.
ICE's mission is to enable learning all over life and to widen access to higher education. We design deliver and curate a portfolio of world leading short courses and award bearing qualifications in a broad range of disciplines.
Our activities primarily take place at Madingley Hall (a residential Grade I listed building), which provides facilities for conferences and events, and a full hotel service. Madingley Hall has 13 meeting rooms, 62 ensuite bedrooms, a bar and lounge, set in 8 acres of grounds (including Capcapability Brown designed gardens).
The function
Reporting to the HR Manager you will coordinate the HR Functions of the Institute, working closely with senior academics and Head of Departments to support recruitment, tutor contracting, employment relations issues and to provide general HR advice on policies and procedures. You will deal with sensitive and confidential staffing issues showing empathy and professionalism, following University procedures and ensuring compliance with employment law. You will also have opportunities to develop new trainings, processes and procedures both for the HR team and for the whole Institute.
You will line manage one or more HR Administrators, supporting them in their function and providing opportunities for professional development.
Your expertise
You will:
   » have practice of working in a generalist HR function, including recruitment, employment relations and general administration.
   » be able to demonstrate empathy, professionalism, confidentiality and good work ethic when dealing with sensitive issues.
   » have up to date expertise of employment and HR best practices and be confident in providing advice to senior leaders.
   » have excellent organisational expertise, the capability to coordinate various HR processes concurrently, managing a busy workload and tight deadlines.
   » be able to critically evaluate existing practices, creating, developing and implementing improvements and new processes.

ICE is supportive of hybrid working, the current arrangements have staff working 2 days on site in Maddingly Hall and 3 days worked remotely, for those working Monday to Friday and where the function allows. These arrangements are subject to change and will not form part of the terms and conditions of employment.
