This post is fulltime and offered on an open-ended basis.
The School of Geographical and Earth Sciences (GES) at the University of Glasgow seeks an individual with strong leadership abilities skills to facilitate collaborative research in computational geosciences across the school. The position builds upon existing geosystem modeling and high-performance computing facilities built up in the school over the past years. The preferred candidate will have a geosciences background and skills in numerical modeling techniques (e.g., finite difference, finite element, etc) applied to investigating volcanic and magmatic systems, fluid flow and reactive transport, and/or planetary formation. We are particularly interested in candidates who can bridge disciplines within the school and investigate processes significant to both human and geologic timescales. We seek individuals who can deliver an excellent student practice through teaching and assessment and contribute to school management and administration in computational geosciences and beyond. Teaching contributions will be in the broad areas of an undergraduate course(s) in computational methods, global tectonics, magmatic systems, or fluid flow and reactive transport. Postgraduate courses should be taught in the field of computational geosciences in the candidate's area of skills. Participation in school field trips at the undergraduate or postgraduate levels is also expected. As a Reader (G9) level position, demonstrated leadership abilities, external funding, peer-review publications, and contributions to academic and strategic management are expected.
