The function
Applications are invited for a 6-monthResearch adjunct onPrivacy of Smarthomes to work full time on an EPSRC-funded project AGENCY: AssuringCitizen Agency in a World with Complex Online Harms. You will be part of a cross-country team of researchers from Birmingham University, Newcastle University, Royal Holloway University of London, Durham University and Kings College University of London. The prosperous post holder is expected to start as soon as possible and will be located in the Department of Computer Science and its highly regarded Surrey Centre for Cyber Security (SCCS), working with Dr Ehsan Toreini.
The project aims to forensically analyse the smart home networks, looking into the privacy and security of real-world case studies. The prosperous candidate should have a passion for security and network analysis. The prosperous candidate will deliver an infrastructure to characterise the smart home network communications across different infrastructures such as Bluetooth, WiFi and smartphone devices. The prosperous candidate will also participate in writing research papers and publish in security conferences.
The Surrey Centre for Cyber Security (SCCS) is a widely recognised centre of excellence for cybersecurity research and teaching. There are approximately 17 permanent academic members and 15 non-academic researchers with skills in applied cryptography, trust systems, social media, communication and networks, and blockchain and distributed ledger technologies over key sectors such as government, finance, communications, transport and cross-sector technologies.
About you
   » We are seeking for candidates who demonstrate strong research and analytical skills, have strong communication skills and have enthusiasm for developing their research ideas.
   » candidates should have practice in at least one of the following areas: security protocols, network forensics, data analysis and IoT infrastructure. Familiarity with machine learning is desired.
   » A PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or another closely related area (or be on the course of getting one very soon at the time of application).
