Background
We are pursuing to appoint a new senior member of staff to join our flagship MBChB programme at an exciting time when the curriculum and programme structure are being redeveloped. The new member of staff will join a well-established team of academics and clinicians to contribute to the development of the revised curriculum, lead our team of senior clinical tutors, contribute to the design and delivery of teaching and participate in NHS Faculty Development.
Community located Medicine (CBM) is a strand in the MBChB programme where medical students lgain about medicine from a Primary Care perspective. The majority of the teaching that students receive occurs on placement in General Practices across the West Midlands and beyond.
The Academic Lead for CBM should be a practising GP (MRCGP/FRCGP). They will provide leadership abilities to a team of Senior Clinical Tutors, each of whom takes responsibility for a year of the MBChB programme and supervises a team of Clinical Tutors who facilitate small-group teaching, on-campus.
This is a high level, strategic post. The postholder will be responsible for developing relationships with placement providers and will contribute strategically to the development of novel community-located placements, in order to enhance the student practice. They will work with significant professional services staff as well as other academics to ensure the content, structure, delivery and quality of the CBM component meets the requirements of the Programme and the General Practices used for placements.
Main tasks
The postholder will:
   » Work with the MBChB Programme Director and Deputy Programme Directors to help develop and implement clinical reasoning all over the MBChB curriculum.
   » Work to develop learning results and align them with other teaching components within the curriculum.
   » Develop new teaching resources, including devising additional opportunities for formative assessment and feedback, designing appropriate summative assessment, and ensuring a close alignment of these new learning results to assessment design and the GMC results for graduates and MLA content map.
   » Contribute to the design and delivery of CBM teaching.
   » Be required to work flexibly to balance academic and clinical commitments (if appropriate).
Person Specification
The post holder will be:
   » An practiced clinical educator with practice in a medical setting, who will innovate and deliver a first -class education for future doctors.
   » Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational expertise.
   » Demonstrate excellence in Learning and Teaching, and Management and Administration.
   » The holder of a postgraduate qualification in Education e.g. PGCert or higher qualification (if appropriate).
   » The postholder should be a doctor, fully registered with a licence to practise with the GMC and participating in clinical appraisal and revalidation.
   » The prosperous candidate must have practice in curriculum design at module and programme level.
   » prosperous and sustained performance in a significant administrative/managerial function (s) (e.g. exams agent).
