The function
The Centre for Study Abroad (CfSA) supports the university's internationalisation ambitions by delivering student mobility programmes.
Sitting within the outbound team, this function focuses primarily on superviseing the University's Turing Scheme, the UK Government's Global Mobility funding programme which provides students going abroad with funding to support their overseas study, work or volunteering placement. The function will also manage specific projects that support and promote the work of the CfSA.
We are ideally seeking a candidate with strong project management and finance/data expertise for the function. While a background in international education/mobility and customer services is beneficial, it is not mandatory.
This is a fast-paced environment, and you will need to work effectively with students, university departments and external organisations.
What will you be doing?
Your function will be twofold. As the CfSA's agent responsible for the Turing Scheme, you will:
» Act as the University's expert on the Turing Scheme, interpreting its guidelines and tapping into the UK HE sector to understand annual changes to the programme.
» Promote and communicate information about the Turing Scheme to students and internal stakeholders.
» Supervise colleagues to ensure required paperwork is submitted by students and complies with grant regulations.
» Ensure timely grant payments to students all over the year, reconciling differences between planned and actual grant amounts and ensuring that these are reported in the Turing payment tool clearly and correctly.
» supervise annual Turing audits and provide the information and data requested by the Department for Education in a timely manner.
» Troubleshoot any problems that arise with the Scheme and work to resolve these
Additionally, you will also:
» Deliver projects that support the CfSA's outbound mobility function. An example of such a project would be: to analyse the reasons why students drop out from the Study Abroad programme and to make recommendations as to how to better inform or support these students.
» Promote the Centre for Study Abroad at open days and other student-facing events.
You should apply if
» You are a process-oriented thinker who is able to create efficient processes to manage complex and overlapping workstreams.
» You bring strong data handling expertise and enjoy working with large and complex spreadsheets.
» You have a keen eye for accuracy and high attention to detail.
» You are able to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
» You are a pragmatic problem solver and are able to think and plan strategically.
» You have customer service practice, ideally working with students and academics.
» You are a team player and are happy to pitch in with others in a busy team environment.
» You have excellent written and communication expertise.
» You have expertise of and/or practice within the international student mobility sector.
