Job Offer: Research Associate in Space Systems:Job description:Job location: Manchester, Hybrid Job reference: SAE-025213 income: £36,024 to £39,347 per annum, depending on significant practice Faculty/Organisational Unit: Science and Engineering Job location: Oxford Road Job employment Type: Fixed Term Division/Team: Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering Hours Per Week: 1 FTE Closing date: 24/04/2024 Contract Duration: 15 months project due to start 1st May however we would be open to flexible start dates up to 1st Aug 2024 School/Directorate: School of Engineering Overall Purpose of the Job: A Postgraduate research position is available at the University of Manchester funded by a UKSA National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP) funded project: Atmosphere Breathing Electric Propulsion (ABEP) Intake End-to-End Simulation & Design (ABEP-SID). this function will focus on the development of a numerical simulation tool for ABEP intakes that incorporates end-to-end system dependencies. Under the guidance of Dr Katharine Smith, the UoM-PI for the project, you will be working with a variety of project partners to develop simulation methods and use these to simulate ABEP intake designs. Key aspects of the function include: » To support research activities in the Space Systems Research group in the School of Engineering focused on Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellite technology development. » Support the development of appropriate simulation tools to enable the execution of end-to-end ABEP intake simulation. » Support the design of ABEP intakes by applying appropriate simulation tools.
