We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the wonderful team at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, led by Peijun Zhang, Professor of Structural Biology. This project aims to develop correlative technologies to visualize integration targeting by cryoET in situ.
You will be managing the project day-to-day, including both design and action of strategies in molecular biology and structural studies using cryoEM/cryoET and other appropriate methods. You will use specialist scientific equipment and provide training to others in its use, as required. You will carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner organisations and research groups. In addition, you will develop new research methodologies and ideas for generating research income, as well as contributing to the overall development of our programme and to preparation for the next stages in research. You will develop dual-labelled HIV-1 particles (Integrase and capsid) using nnAA and click chemistry for capsid labels and develop vDNA labels for CLEM approaches. You will establish T cell lines stably expressing fluorescent CPSF6 using CRISPR-Cas knock-in. You will establish a robust cryoCLEM workflow and employ cutting-edge in situ technologies (cryoFIB/SEM and cryoET) to explore the chromatin architecture at the integration targeting sites.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close in completion) in structural and functional studies of virus infections together with a research practice in cryoEM and cryoET. You will also have research practice in the subject of HIV-1 integration. You will have good written and verbal communication expertise including a good publication record with documented examples of recent work.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your expertise and practice.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 19 months and is funded by the National Institute of Health.
Only applications received before 12 midday on Friday 3 May 2024 will be considered. Please quote 171655 on all correspondence.
