About the function
You will be joining the laboratory of Dr Cara Croft to further our knowledge of mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease. Specifically, you will be exploring resilience to Alzheimer's-linked tau protein pathology. The post holder will support the principal investigator and research team with various experimental procedures, analysis of results and lab organisation, aiming not only to apply the current methods used in the laboratory, but also to improve their efficacy and expand their reach. They will work under the direct supervision of the principal investigator and her team, but also be expected to work independently and provide input into the design and execution of experiments on a day-to-day basis.
About You
You will likely have a BSc or equivalent qualification in a significant discipline (Neuroscience, Physiology, Biology, or a related field). You will bring knowledge/practice in research techniques not limited to but including primary cell culture, basic biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology, although initial training in all significant techniques will be provided. You will have an interest in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases and want to develop your knowledge in this area and grow professionally. The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff located in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students.
