Research agent (10x5 Wind Tunnel):Job description:Job location: London Campus: South Kensington, London Job Summary Applications are invited for a 10x5 Tunnel Operations Engineer, who, working directly with and reporting to the tunnel Research Fellow will ensure that tunnel projects are completed to a high standard and on time. The prosperous candidate will support technological developments and research for industrial and academic projects in the 10x5 wind tunnel, for a wide variety of sectors, primarily wind-engineering, wind energy, and aeronautics. In collaboration with other staff, will provide effective guidance, teaching and training to researchers and students, exploit and expand the scientific capabilities of a world leading wind tunnel research facility. tasks and responsibilities » Provide support to tunnel clients and researchers both engaged in tunnel testing as well as in preparation for future projects. » contact with wind tunnel clients and interpret their instructions to design and run effective measurement campaigns. » Have an established expertise and/or show aptitude in learning how to use CAD packages for the development of models for 3D printing, or detailed engineering drawings for workshop fabrication. » Monitor, in real time, data from wind tunnel tests to ensure its quality. » Following appropriate training, become fluent in a range of programming languages, such as Labview and Matlab, to interpret codes, and implement changes required for specific projects. » Maintain a maintenance programme such that the wind tunnel, equipment, instruments and probes are checked regularly, and the necessary maintenance programme is implemented. » Assist in preparing models for testing and reporting results to clients, and in preparing bids for tender for commercial work. » Contribute to the scientific and research aspirations of the facility such that we can maintain and expand our reputation as a world leading facility. » Assist and advise students and researchers in designing, preparing and running their experiments. » Promote a culture of continuous self-examination, in all aspects asking how operations can be made more efficient and reliable to lead to higher quality commercial and research output.
