Facilities Management is responsible for the planning, development, engineering, construction, operation, maintenance, and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites, and services within Western's campus community. Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Facilities Development & Engineering, the Electrical Infrastructure Specialist is a technical resource that helps Facilities Management (“FM”) support the campus community and ensure that the University of Western Ontario’s (“Western”) facilities are operating and supported appropriately.  The function will work closely with Facilities Development & Engineering (“FDE”) and Facilities Operations as well as various internal and external parties, providing technical skills on construction and renovation projects.  The Electrical Infrastructure Specialist will support the Facility Condition Assessment Program and play a key function in planning deferred maintenance for all electrical systems on campus. The function is a key contributor to Western’s deferred maintenance and infrastructure upgrade management plan. 

Qualifications

suitable education
   » 3 year college diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
   » Completion of or working towards the Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation is preferred 
   » Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in a related field preferred
practice:
   » 7 years of practice in working with large complex electrical systems
   » practice coordinating small to medium sized projects 
   » practice in a large, complex, institutional environment preferred 
   » practice with a building auditing program, asset management, and facility condition assessments is preferred 
   » practice with deferred maintenance planning is preferred 
expertise, Skills & Abilities:
   » Thorough expertise of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, guidelines and regulations.
   » Demonstrated expertise of electrical systems, including low, medium, and high voltage electrical distribution, lighting, motors, controls, fire alarm, and other building services.
   » Professional manner, tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, and discretion in dealing with various parties and colleagues, including solid negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
   » Sound judgment and decision making capability with a availability to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to covering issues and making decisions.
   » Strong business acumen with an capability to influence, motivate, and inspire with or without positional authority.
   » Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an capability to offer creative solutions.
   » Proven capability to take initiative and in-depth expertise of how to champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation.
   » Organizational skills to manage multiple activities/projects that are accurate and thorough, sometimes of a complex nature.
   » In-depth expertise of techniques for planning, managing, and coordinating projects that involve a variety of parties.
