The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world's leading public health universities.Our mission is to is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide;workingin partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of expertise into policy and practice.
We are pursuing a Research Fellow to work on SWERV (Sex Workers Evaluate Reporting Violence) - an evaluation of UK-charity National Ugly Mugs (NUM)'s violence avoidance and support by and for people who sell sex. SWERV uses participatory, mixed-methods, guided by realist evaluation. The post-holder will: support qualitative process evaluation, assisting with study set-up/design, leading data generation, analysis and reporting,training and supervising community co-researchers;support an evidence review on this topic;lead on community/practitioner dialogue workshops, with Dr Rachel Stuart, Dr Pippa Grenfell and the wider project teamincluding project-partners NUM and sex-worker led organisations.The post is supervised by Dr Pippa Grenfell, whowill provide mentoring/support in qualitative, participatory methods.
The candidate should have: a higher degree in social science, public health, or related field; qualitative-methods skills;research-practice related to sex work, violence, mental health, or with minoritised/marginalised populations; commitment to participatory research. practice of participatory research and of theory-informed evaluation, is highly desirable.We encourage applications from candidates with lived practice of sex work, and/or who identify as Black, Asian, transgender, non-binary, gender-fluid and/or gender-queer.
The post is part-time 28 hours per week, 0.8 FTE and fixed-term until 31 May 2026. The post is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research and is available immediately.
The income will be on the Academic Pathway, Grade 6in the range £43,947-£49,908 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary ?Wellbeing Days?. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is located in London at LSHTM.
