function Purpose
To create and contribute to the creation of expertise through the achievement of the particle physics research group's strategy by undertaking specified activities within the established ATLAS research project, specifcally in the area of physics with multiboson production including a Z and a photon.
Main tasks
   » To analyse and interpret data from the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, in the area of multiboson physics
   » To present research findings in publications, research seminars and conference talks
   » To contribute to the development of new techniques and methods
   » To develop further research objectives and proposals (with assistance of a mentor if required)
   » To supervise and provide guidance to PhD students on research related work
   » To contribute to writing bids for research funding
Scope of the function
   » Analysis, interpretation and presentation of ATLAS data and results, in the area of multiboson physics
   » Contributing to generation of funding
Person Specification
Essential criteria
   » PhD in particle physics (or thesis submitted by time post is taken up)
   » practice with the ATLAS experiment, including in analysis of final-states with electroweak gauge bosons, e.g. Z+photon
   » Programming practice in C++ and Python in a particle physics data analysis context
   » Good presentation/communication/interpersonal expertise
   » capability to work to deadlines/schedule within a project
   » High level analytical capcapability
Desirable criteria
   » Broad computing practice, e.g. Linux, Python
   » availability to travel for short periods within the UK and abroad.
