Offer: Masters (MSc) by Research Studentship: Machine Learning for Biological Soft Tissue Analysis:Job description:Job location: Oxford Eligibility: Home/EU with Settled Status Bursary: £16,540 Fees: Tuition fees will be paid by the School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics Deadline: 6 December 2021 at 17:00 GMT Start date: January 2022 Project Description Oxford Brookes' team led by Olga Barrera has developed codes for statistical characterization of architectural features of soft tissue (focus on the knee meniscus) from advanced imaging. The aim of this MSc by Research project is to generate simplified artificial microstructures - using AI techniques such as Generative Adversarial Imitation Learning (GAIL) - exhibiting the same statistical distribution of physical parameters (porosity, size of collagen channels, tortuosity path of the channels, pore connectivity) as the native tissue. Modelling the behaviour of these artificial microstructures under a range of physiological loading conditions practiced by soft tissue (focus on meniscus on which we have broad data) will help generate data in silico for prediction of material parameters and generate valuable information for the development of biomaterials aimed at designing soft tissue substitute/ repair systems. One potential solution is Collagen-located foam which represents a promising material for hard and soft tissue regeneration. Requirements » practice with advanced imagining techniques » practice in programming languages such as MATLAB and Python » practice in machine/deep learning algorithms » expertise in biomechanics » practice with CFD/ Finite Element How to apply Please apply directly to the university at https://www.brookes.ac.uk/studying-at-brookes/how-to-apply/applying-direct/ , quoting ?MSc by Research Studentship - Machine learning for biological soft tissue analysis?. Fully completed applications must be submitted by 6 December 2021 . As part of the application process you must submit your CV, along with a supporting statement (2-page maximum) which explains why you believe you are the best candidate for this studentship. Please be advised that the selection process will involve an interview. For informal requests contact Olga Barrera obarrera@brookes.ac.uk. Skills:
