Are you interested in supporting the development of platform solutions to overcome pandemics, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and other diseases?
You will manage an exciting new Wellcome Leap R3 project funded to innovate RNA production processes to develop and mass-manufacture vaccines and therapeutics against pandemics (such as the COVID-19 pandemic) and other diseases.
this function will be located at the University of Sheffield, and the project will be carried out in collaboration with two industrial partners and within the Wellcome Leap R3 program. The project is led by Dr. Zoltan Kis at the University of Sheffield, an expert in mRNA vaccine production modelling for quality by design and techno-economic analysis. Within the R3 program, the team from Sheffield is playing a central function for developing a digitised, small-scale and high-throughput process for distributed and automated RNA production for therapy and pandemic preparedness.
The Wellcome Leap R3 program has two goals: 1), to increase exponentially the number of vaccine and therapeutic products that can be designed, developed, and produced every year, reducing their costs and increasing equitable access; and 2) to create a self-sustaining network of manufacturing facilities providing globally distributed, state-of-the-art surge capacity to meet future pandemic needs.
You will have a first degree in a significant subject or equivalent practice, and you will be able to demonstrate substantial practice of project management, in particular of large scale consortia and ideally in Higher Education research environment. You will have a high level of literacy and numeracy with a proven track record of effective collaboration with industrial partners and/or funding/public bodies. Project Management methodology qualification for example, PRINCE2 Practitioner or MSP Practitioner would be desirable.
You will have opportunities to undertake training on project-related technical expertise and professional expertise. Given the multidisciplinary nature of the project, and planned research visits, you will get opportunities to lgain new expertise by closely collaborating with internationally leading partners from academia and industry. You will have the opportunity to participate in training on professional expertise for researchers and leaders, provided by the host university and undergo a formal review and mentoring by a senior staff.
You'll be located in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE). CBE is ranked amongst the top 5 Chemical Engineering Departments in the UK and is a thriving department within the University's Faculty of Engineering. The Department has a world-class research environment that is ranked number 1 by the Research Excellence Framework 2014. CBE holds a Silver Athena SWAN Award and two gold awards for Green Impact.
