Are you interested in working for a world top 100 University in an innovative project on web-located visualisation of driving behaviour?
We have a great opportunity in the Department of Computer Science for someone with a passion for Information Visualisation and User-Centred Design, looking to use their expertise in web development to make an impact on road safety.
We are seeking for a Research Associate to work as a part of a small interdisciplinary project team, to undertake activities in the web-located software development phase of Fit2Drive, a recently awarded Road Safety Trust project (https://www.roadsafetytrust.org.uk/news/new-technologies-for-assessing-eld erly-drivers-road-safety-31121).
The project aims to develop a new way to assess driving safety in elderly drivers and drivers affected by neurodegenerative disorders. We will collect data from trial participants using telematics devices and interface them with a mobile application for the drivers and a web-located application for health professionals, so they can see their patients' driving behaviour.
You must have practice of client and server-side web application development (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.Js React etc.) and user-centred design, at PhD level or equivalent practice. You should also have some practice of visual analytics. An consciousness of designing for a specific demographic group and/or a medical/societal aim would be desirable.
You will join the OAK group in the Computer Science Department at the University of Sheffield. The group conducts research and innovation in the area of ubiquitous and pervasive computing.
The Group includes:
   » Professor Fabio Ciravegna, a senior academic;
   » Dr. Vitaveska Lanfranchi, a Senior Lecturer in Medical Computing spending 50% of her time supporting innovation at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals;
   » two Lecturers/Senior Lecturers and several senior research scientists, Research Associates, Research adjuncts and PhD students.
The Group has created three spinout companies in the area of data capturing and management (K-Now Ltd), mobility tracking (Aeqora) and telematics (The Floow).
In summary this is an ideal function for a person interested in Information Visualisation and User-Centred Design, as it offers the opportunity to design, develop and evaluate an interface with users in an innovative area (driving behaviour analysis) that will lead to publications and will deliver real-world impact in road safety. For the position, we are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.
We're one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University's Total compensate Package includes a competitive income, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
