The UK Community Renewal Fund (CRF) is part of the wider UK Government UK Shared Prosperity Fund managed through the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Ministry of Housing, and Communities and Local Government. Swansea City Council was awarded CRF support for a Business and Greener Futures bid which included contribution from Swansea University to develop a practiccapability study for the creation of a Natural Products BIOHUB, forming part of a larger future bid to the Shared Prosperity Fund and aligning to existing projects linked to the Swansea Bay City Deal.
Natural Products are compounds produced from living organisms, or more widely using living organisms to make useful products. Natural products are more sustainable and there is significant business interest in the manufacture of greener products. Swansea University's contribution is to develop a natural products incubator space (BIOHUB) where established and new businesses can interact with University facilities and skills, increasing investment and job creation within the region.
To support this project, Swansea University are seeking to appoint a Project Manager, who will lead the project on all management matters including dealing with the funder and other University departments on a routine basis. This will require the post holder to build relationships externally and internally to provide support to the Project Director on a day to day basis. The function holder will also be instrumental in the preparation of the business plan and budget for a follow-on application to the Strength in Places Fund.
The prosperous candidate must be educated to degree level in a related subject or have equivalent work practice. They must be able to demonstrate evidence of significant previous project management practice preferably on research projects in a HE environment and have practice of high-quality writing copy for funding proposals and proof reading with demonstrable results. Excellent command of the English language with creative flair, measured by a portfolio of written materials such as funding applications and strong organisational skills with an capability to work with a number of stakeholders in the coordination of high quality and timely reports and funding applications is also essential. Candidates must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the capability to speak authoritatively and persuasively to a variety of audiences while presenting complex information in a clear way. They must also be able to seek out information proactively from a variety of sources, including written/online materials and expertise held by busy academic staff, converting this into accurate prose. The capability to speak Welsh and a possession of Project Management qualification is desirable for this post.
