We are pursuing an enthusiastic individual to conduct research for the Global Open Access Screening and Diagnostic Tools for ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)- Prototype Development and practiccapability Evaluation (ASD-OSSDx). This is a mixed methods study and will entail use of cognitive interviews and a small number of focus groups with parents and professionals working with children with ASD. It will also entail piloting a new tool for diagnostic use and working with teams across Kenya and South Africa who will also be piloting this tool with children who have a diagnosis of ASD, those who do not have a diagnosis of ASD and those who have other neurodevelopmental conditions. You will work under the direction of Professor Melissa Gladstone and will work on conducting research as well as superviseing the organisation of the study. The study has already been submitted for sponsorship and ethical approval but the candidate may support completing all necessary R & D work as well as creating standard operating procedures.
You should have a degree in medicine, nursing, psychology or a related field (e.g. occupational therapy), practice working with children and families with ASD and practice of assessment of children with ASD, preferably with expertise of a variety of screening and diagnostic tools. If possible, you should have practice in both qualitative and quantitative research, and some practice in ethics applications. We would however, be willing to provide training for any new research expertise needed to conduct the research. The applicant should have comprehensive IT expertise including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and will need to support regular meetings across the teams on web-located platforms such as Zoom or MS Teams have or gain a Good Clinical Practice certificate. The post is available for one-year part time and there may be opportunities to negotiate with Alder Hey about working in a clinical function at the same time but would need to be discussed with the teams.
