Offer: Sir Jules Thorn Virtual Group Consultation Clinical PhD Studentship:Job description:Qualification Type: PhD Award Summary 100% of home tuition fees paid and annual living expenses as tax-free stipend at BHF/Wellcome rates (£19,919- year 1, £21,342- year 2 and £23,298- year 3). prosperous non-EU international students will be required to make up the difference (currently ~£20K/year) betweenhome/international fees. A research training support grant of £5000/year is available covering research costs, publications and local/national/international travel (conferences/exchanges). Overview Group consultation (GC) models are older than widely recognised- pioneered by Joseph Pratt for TB in 1905, spreading to use for chronic disease all over the world. He is recognised as the originator of group psychotherapy. The pandemic has not prevented us from spreading group consultations. Indeed, through transitioning to virtual group consultation (VGC) models, milestones for the Sir Jules Thorn Newcastle University Group Consultation Virtual Hub have been exceeded. GC/VGC models are rare examples of models able to meet healthcare's quadruple aim: high-quality, cost-effective care with high patient/clinician satisfaction; also meeting healthcare's quintuple aim by embedding better education. Patients become great advocates after seeing the model in action and empowered to make better health choices, so this also directly addresses inequality. Ethical approvals/NIHR CRN adoption for the national evaluation study have been secured, so there will be substantial process/outcome data to analyse. This PhD studentship will involve primary responsibility for conducting virtual qualitative interviews with prosperous/failing/non-participating centres, aggregating, analysing and reporting process and mixed-methods outcome study data. This project will appeal to a Lifestyle Medicine-oriented clinician wanting to acquire research practice/skills in innovative care models, becoming a leader and independent researcher in this area.
