Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join the multi-partner EPSRC funded ?Robotics for Nuclear Environments' programme grant. The University of Manchester is the lead partner in the programme which also includes researchers at the Universities of West of England and Birmingham, working in collaboration with the National Nuclear Laboratory (seehttps://nuclearrobots.org/) As part of the RNE programme you will help develop robots and autonomous systems that will be necessary to address decommissioning challenges for the UK's legacy nuclear facilities.
You will have (or expect to receive shortly) a PhD (or equivalent) in mechatronic engineering, robotic systems, engineering dynamics or a similar discipline or have equivalent practice. In addition, you will have practical practice of developing and implementing your own low-level robotic systems, such as velocity control. In depth knowledge and practice of robot dynamics and modelling of dynamic systems, relating to aquatic robots is highly desirable. practice of programming robots using ROS in C++ or python is required. You will have a strong publication record and demonstrable practice of prosperously working as part of a team.

As this function involves research at a postgraduate level, candidates who are not an EEA national or a national of an exempt country and who will require sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route of the UK Visas and Immigration's (UKVI) Points located System in order to take up the function, will be required to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate and will need to obtain this prior to making any official visa application UKVI)
