Offer: Proposed Project Title: Fractional-order pharmacokinetics: model parameter identification and:Job description:Qualification Type: PhD Principal manager (s): Dr Pantelis Sopasakis Contact Details: Email: p.sopasakis@qub.ac.uk Second manager: Dr Nikolaos Athanasopoulos Proposed Project Title: Fractional-order pharmacokinetics: model parameter identification and optima drug administration Project Introduction: The main objective of this project will be the development of a statistical estimation and control framework for fractional-order systems with applications to (population) pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and drug administration. In particular: » We will propose novel parameter estimation methodologies for fractional-order systems and will explore the development of appropriate mixed-effect models for populations for patients » We will develop methodologies that will allow us to quantify the inter- and intra-patient uncertainty » We will develop control methodologies, located on model predictive control, that will allow the safe and optimal automatic administration of drugs to patients who are hospitalised (e.g., anaesthesia during surgery). Project Key Words: Pharmacokinetics; Fractional-order dynamical systems; Estimation Theory; Mixed-Effect models; Uncertainty Quantification; Control theory. Start Date: 01/10/22 Application Closing date: 28/02/22 Funding Body: DFE (tbc) Funding Information: This three year studentship, for full-time PhD study, is potentially funded by the Department for the Economy (DfE) and commences on 1 October 2022.
