The function of Technician is instrumental to our Mechanical Engineering Student Workshop. You will be a part of motivating others to push boundaries and will have the opportunity to continuously lgain in collaboration with our students and researchers.
About the department:
located in theDepartment of Mechanical Engineering, you will be joining multi-skilled technicians who provide technical support to both teaching & research in the Department. The department along with Technicians providedPPE during the pandemicdemonstrating our ethos of using engineering for good.
Our team is also responsible for supporting undergraduate teaching sessions, numerous student competition teams and a wide variety of research activities.The team also provide expertise in welding/fabrication in steel, stainless steel & aluminium together with bench fitting & assembly.
About the function:
The function requires use of conventional machine tools (milling machines, lathes) with the opportunity to progress onto CNC machine tools, where training would be provided. You will support students & academics by inducting them into the workshop and supervising their activity. You will also support the Final Year Competition Teams and Final Year project students with component manufacture and provide guidance on design work.
You will encourage a diverse student pool to be creative and become the next generation of engineers.
About you:
You will need to enjoy engaging with students& staff of all backgrounds with different levels. You will also have:
   » significant qualifications at GCSE level and City & Guilds or equivalent or practice working in a significant field
   » Good interpersonal & communication expertise
   » practice of contributing to the scoping, planning, delivery of simple, & more complex projects
   » practice of being responsible for safe working practices
