We are seeking for maternity leave cover for a key function in our internal communications team. The function is instrumental in keeping our internal audiences (colleagues and students) well informed, engaged with the university, and proud to work or study here. You will firstly be an accomplished writer, able to turn your hand to writing factually, corporately or creatively as and when needed, with the capability to inspire and engage different audiences across any medium or channel, from scripts and slides to blog posts and FAQs. You'll champion our clear and down to earth tone of voice, writing for your audience in their language, without jargon or fuss. You will need to be a strong stakeholder manager who is able to professionally and assertively advise colleagues at all levels when to communicate and when not to - including the right channels, tone and messaging to use. You will be able to turn your advice into clear and professional communications strategies, plans and timelines that you can present to your stakeholders. You will be the voice of students and colleagues - listening to them, representing their needs, and creating the content that they need to know, and want to read. As well as celebrating institutional achievements, you will support the communications of major change projects and campaigns and have a continual focus on improving channels and processes. In this varied function, you will need practice beyond internal communications. It is essential you have practice in PR and crisis communications, as you will be part of a paid on-call communications rota, in case of an emergency or incident out of hours that affects our colleagues or students. You will also have some practice of events, social media and editing intranet pages. You will be part of a small team that works hard to get things done, helps others see ?the bigger picture' and punches well above their weight.
