The University of Buckingham is among the fifteen smallest in the UK and is rightly proud of its distinctive features, namely: it is the only private University in the UK with a Royal Charter; secondly, it pioneered the first accelerated (two-year) degree; and finally, it provides students with a personalised learning practice through its small-group academic tutorial system and exceptional pastoral care provision.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Director of the Vinson Centre for Public knowledge of Economics & Entrepreneurship, which is a post funded by Lord Vinson. The Vinson Centre (https://vinsoncentre.com/) is a space for research and knowledge exchange where individuals and teams come together to pursue exciting projects in novel ways. The centre works with students and scholars of economics of all ages on events and outreach to promote a wider knowledge of how markets and entrepreneurship promote welfare. We do this through events, programmes, publications and multi-media. We welcome collaboration with schools, colleges, universities, think tanks and individuals. The centre also challenges received wisdom and rethinks economics and entrepreneurship as a single subject, furthering the knowledge and pursuit of trade and enterprise in a free society.
The postholder will serve as Director of the Vinson Centre for the Public knowledge of Economics and Entrepreneurship, and act as Senior lecturer/Reader/Professor in Economics or cognate discipline.
The prosperous applicant will ideally have practice in the areas economics or a cognate discipline (e.g., finance, political economy or entrepreneurship). The post also requires a person who has practice of working both with internal university stakeholders, as well as with external stakeholders, including other academic institutions, think tanks, grant-giving trusts and donors.
The University has close ties with the Institute of Economic Affairs and the International Institute of Monetary Research. Informal enquiries may be made to Professor James Tooley on james.tooley@buckingham.ac.uk.
The closing date for applications is 17th February 2022 It is anticipated that interviews will be held week commencing 7th March 2022 Please note: if prosperous, any offer is subject to standard checks, including qualifications, eligibility to work in the UK on a permanent basis and DBS (if applicable)
