The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is an independent membership organisation dedicated to the education, training and advancement of surgeons, dental surgeons, doctors, and various individuals all over healthcare who are involved in the surgical care of patients. About the function
this function will support the work of the Library section who provide modern medical information resources and support to the College membership worldwide, and historical enquiry services related to the College's considerable history and heritage. The Library and Archive adjunct is accountable to the College Librarian and the Director of Heritage. It should be noted that the function may occasionally include some evening and weekend work.

practice/Qualifications/Key expertise
Being educated to a minimum of HNC level (or equivalent) in a related subject, you will have practice of working in a library, archive or information-located environment. Possession of a degree in a related subject with or without significant work practice may also be considered. practice of providing accurate and significant information to a professional and public customer-base is essential as is an informed consciousness of the work involved in library and archives administration and a desire to develop expertise in advance of pursuing a career in the field. You will be IT literate with practice of Microsoft software and have good verbal and written communication expertise.
practice of or interest in the history of medicine and surgery is desirable as is the consciousness of data protection and copyright legislation and issues, and their impact on library and archive policy. practice of library and archive-specific IT applications including cataloguing software (eg Adlib) would be advantageous.
