This appointment is for one year (from 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2023)
The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method is committed to doing excellent research and teaching in analytic philosophy in a manner that is continuous with the social and natural sciences and is socially significant. It is also committed to creating an inclusive environment for philosophical debate that engages with a wide variety of perspectives. It seeks to appoint an LSE Fellow who will, in a manner consistent with these commitments, contribute to the intellectual life of the Department and the School by delivering excellent teaching at both undergraduate and master's level, with teaching on more advanced courses being research-led. They will be able to contribute substantially to courses on topics in Philosophy of Science, Introductory and Intermediate Logic, and Set Theory & Further Logic and will be able to take on overall responsibility for at least some of these courses. Being able to contribute to a course in Evidence and Policy is desirable. The post also permits substantial time for research, and the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the research culture and intellectual life of the department in their areas of specialization. prosperous candidates will have a developing, high-quality research record, excellent communication and presentation expertise, including in small-group and online settings, and be able to provide effective mentoring and support to students. They should have the capability to work in partnership with fellow teachers.
Candidates willhave a developing, high-quality research record in significant fields. Candidates must also have a well-developed strategy for future research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications. They will have, or be very near completion of, a PhD in Philosophy or related field by the post start date. In addition, candidates will have aproven commitment to excellent teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment for students, as evidenced by feedback from students and colleagues.
