The Post
To assist in research (by recruiting participants and collecting data) to create expertise through providing research support for the ABA-feed randomised controlled trial.
The ABA-feed study (Assets-located infant feeding help Before and After Birth) builds on a published practiccapability study. It is a collaboration between five universities (Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Stirling, and University of Central Lancashire) led by Birmingham with the trial managed by the Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit (BCTU). The intervention will be delivered by peer supporters trained to become infant feeding helpers and takes an asset-located approach to assisting women to feeding their first baby.
The trial aims to recruit 2730 women expecting their first baby from 12-15 sites across the UK and randomise them to the ABA intervention or usual care. Alongside the trial we will undertake a mixed methods process evaluation with more detailed case studies in five of the sites to explore the effect of context on implementation. This postholder will recruit pregnant women to participate in the trial, contribute to data collection within NHS Lanarkshire and assist the ABA-Feed Scotland team working at other sites. There is a possibility that Scottish Borders may join the trial and additional hours (<25%FTE) may become available.
