We are currently seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral research associate with excellent organisational and communication expertise to conduct, contribute to and take responsibility for research projects in the fields of hypertension and cardiovascular disease. In particular we will shortly launch a major UK multi-centre study (POPPY), funded by the Wellcome Trust, to understand the effect of pregnancy complications on women's long-term cardiovascular health.The function will be located within the Division of Experimental Medicine (EMIT), Department of Medicine located in Level 3 Addenbrooke's Centre for Clinical Investigation.
Our current research centres on knowledge the mechanisms underlying hypertension, particularly in young people, and in relationship to maternal complications of pregnancy. We also have an active clinical trials programme, and work closely with collaborators in the University and Industry to undertake high quality experimental medicine studies focussing on reducing cardiovascular risk, and knowledge the pathophysiology of various conditions. We work closely with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, industry and an broad network of UK and International collaborators.
The postholder will work together with Dr Carmel McEniery, who will lead the project locally, to take a major function in delivering the POPPY study, undertaking aspects of project management, learning some of the measurement techniques involved and preparing study materials and communications, including research presentations and papers. They will also work with other members of the team including Professor Wilkinson, research nurses and clinical fellows. The postholder will also have the opportunity to develop their own related research interests and attend international occasions (meetings, conferences etc) when possible.
The prosperous candidate should have a PhD in a significant scientific area, and practical practice of working in a cardiovascular physiology or experimental medicine setting is desirable, but not essential. An aptitude for clinical research, involving excellent organisational and communication expertise, is essential.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
