Translational Gastroenterology Unit, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford, OX3 9DU
Grade 6: £29,614 Underfill at Grade 5:£26,341
The Clinical Trials Facility at the Translational Gastroenterology Unit (TGU) in Oxford accommodates a large portfolio of trials, both commercial and academic. These include studies of vaccines, diagnostics, biomarkers, genetics and new clinical interventions in a range of diseases of the gut and liver.
These national and international trials are run and delivered by a growing team of research nurses, practitioners, biobankers and administrators with great support from our consultants, junior doctors and scientists. The work is carried out with a drive to continually improve quality of care and clinical results for patients.
We require a Research Practitioner to assist with DeLIVER, a five-year Cancer Research UK-funded research programme led by Professor Ellie Barnes. The function will involve patient recruitment, follow-up appointments with those enrolled, large-scale sample processing and phlebotomy (all significant training will be provided).
You will hold a degree in a significant subject, e.g. Biological Sciences and be able to work under minimal supervision. You will demonstrate good communication and interpersonal expertise with the capability to interact with a wide variety of internal/external contacts regularly. You will be willing to work with human tissue and blood samples and directly with patients. Previous clinical practice, practice of working in a laboratory team (particularly sample processing and quality control environment) is desirable.
As a facility we look to support our staff in their continued professional development and we would be very keen to support the appointee with further educational opportunities while in post. If you are interested in this opportunity please get in touch with our clinical trials manager for the team, Arran Babbs to find out more (arran.babbs@ouh.nhs.uk).
Whilst the function is a Grade 6 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less practice who are seeking a development opportunity, for which the appointment would be at Grade 5 (£26,341 - £31,406 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with candidates at interview/appointment where appropriate.
Only candidates that apply for this function before the closing date of 12:00 07/02/2022 will be considered.
