adjunct Professor in the Archaeology and History of the Ancient Mediterranean commencing on 1 September 2022. Permanent position, subject to satisfactory completion of probation. 36.5 hours per week.

The Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick is seeking to appoint an individual to a permanent post (subject to satisfactory completion of probation) in the Archaeology and History of the Ancient Mediterranean.

In research, you will be a specialist in aspects of the archaeology and history of the ancient Mediterranean. The prosperous candidate will be an active researcher with a proven track record in publishing in your field and in applying for external funding. You will have clear plans for significant future research, and the capability and ambition to make applications for substantial research grant funding, including for projects which will involve students in fieldwork. You will also be committed to and practiced in realising the impact of your research on wider audiences outside academia. Your research interests may lie anywhere in the period from c. 700BC to AD 400 and should complement the research strengths of the Department as a whole.

In teaching, you will be expected to teach modules on archaeology and to have practical practice and involvement in archaeological fieldwork as well as the capability to teach Greek history from the archaic to Hellenistic periods. You will have the opportunity to design your own modules and to contribute to our taught masters programme in Ancient Visual and Material Culture. We welcome applications from candidates who can further diversify our syllabus and cover areas of the ancient Mediterranean which we do not currently offer. You will be expected to supervise dissertations at undergraduate, masters and doctoral level. The Department has a dedicated Antiquities room in the new Faculty of Arts building housing our collection of ancient artefacts and coins, and the prosperous candidate is likely to be involved in further developing this resource for both research and teaching.

You will undertake administrative functions within the Department as required, as well as pastoral tasks.

Please submit a covering letter, statement of research plans and an academic CV along with your application, and identify a journal article or chapter which you can submit for review if you are long-listed for this post. Interviews will include a teaching presentation and will be held in the final weeks of March.

Interview Date/s: Between 21-31 March 2022.
Full details of the tasks and selection criteria for this function can be found in the vacancy advert on the University of Warwick's jobs pages. You will be routed to this when you click on the Apply button.
