The function The Centre for Electronic Imaging (CEI) is a research centre located within the School of Physical Sciences at the Open University and has been working on the European Space Agency's THESEUS project since 2019. The CEI's THESEUS activity will conclude towards the end of 2023, due to the mission not being selected as a candidate for ESA's M5 programme. However, the CEI will continue its work on the Soft X-ray Imager instrument through to completion and further develop this imaging technology for potential use in future space missions. We are pursuing to appoint an enthusiastic individual to join the CEI as a CMOS Detector Scientist, to complete the detector development activities and further develop the group's capabilities in CMOS image sensor technology. The CMOS Detector Scientist will be engaged in all aspects of CEI's responsibilities in CMOS technology-located programmes, and with appropriate training and support, the function holder will be expected to develop into a key expert in the design, operation and performance of CMOS detector technologies. The prosperous candidate will possess a PhD in Physics, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related subject, have practice with CMOS and/or CCD imaging sensors and have Demonstrable proficiency in algorithm development in MATLAB C/C++, Java and/or Python (or similar) development environments. The position is being offered until the end of September 2023, however an extension beyond this date will be considered if external project funding allows nearer the time.
