This is an exciting opportunity to join the Access and Widening Participation Portfolio within the Admissions Team at the University of St Andrews.
The post holder will be required to develop and deliver recruitment, admissions and outreach activities as relating to the Admissions Unit operational plan and specifically in lines with widening participation and access focused priority projects.
You will be required to lead and deliver a range of outreach projects, including but not limited to, First Chances Fife (P7 - S6), Access to High Demand Professions (Reach), and the Sutton Trust Summer School. The post offers the opportunity to deliver and develop the range of activities currently offered to senior phase school pupils as well as providing support and guidance all over the university application process. You will have an active interest in supporting young people to gain the expertise and confidence to progress and succeed in higher education. You will have a creative and innovative approach to engaging with young people, and will be integral to further improvements to our current activities in line with the University's Scottish Government outcome agreements, National Access Programme development and COWA recommendations.
You should have a sensitivity and interest in widening participation across schools and colleges. You should have a good knowledge of current government strategic objectives in relation to Widening Access to Higher Education and be able to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders from across the sector including candidates, academic colleagues, school and college staff, parents and care providers and community learning partners.
You will be expected to work outside normal office working hours including some weekend work. You will be required to lead residential summer schools as part of this function.
You will have an active function in application reading, as well as general recruitment all over Scotland and the UK.
You will be able to work independently, and have a proactive approach to working practices, actively seeking new opportunities for development and improvements to workload and have a student centered approach.
The post, which may be offered as a secondment opportunity, is available for up to 12 months or until the substantive post holder returns.
