We are recruiting for an practiced Facilities adjunct, to form part of the Facilities Teamwith responsibility for carrying out a range of maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities and tasks include:
Provide a first line response in the event of a building services/equipment breakdown or emergency. Assist with the departmental goods-in and stores service, monitoring stock levels of consumable goods. Occasional ordering via the University R12 ordering system (training will be given). Provide occasional cover for the reception desk. Liaison with the Estates Services and building contractors, where necessary and in the absence of the Facilities Manager to pass on information and ensure service standards are maintained. Participate in a rota to provide out-of-hours call-out in the event of a building services emergency. Operate security and fire alarm systems and equipment. Fire Warden tasks.
General maintenance of buildings, laboratory and other equipment. Repairing and redecoration of the building and laboratories, with occasional basic electrical and mechanical repairs required. Assisting with building alterations, refurbishments, laboratory and bench alterations. Arranging recycling and/or disposal of furniture and equipment.
Portable Appliance Testing (training will be given). Maintenance and inspection of in-house de-ionised water systems. Autoclaving tasks. Assist with the day to day requirements of the Liquid Nitrogen storage facilities (training will also be given).
The ideal candidate will hold a recognised qualification, NVQ or equivalent, in building services. They will also have an consciousness of health and safety requirements relating to an engineering/mechanical workshop, or building maintenance environment, and ensure the safety of members of staff and the public. The post holder will be able to demonstrate skills in general maintenance, including DIY activities, decorating, carpentry and plumbing. They will have practice in basic repairs/maintenance of laboratory and other equipment, including some electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering repairs. It is a key requirement that the candidate can demonstrate initiative and has the capability to respond flexibly to the needs of the Department.
Basic expertise of Microsoft Office and email is required and it is desirable that the candidate has practice of working in a function in which customer service is of key importance.
The post is available immediately, and will initially be located in Le Gros Clark (LGC) and Sherrington buildings, both on Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PT. The post will then permanently be located in the Sherrington building from June 2022 when LGC closes.
