Every one of our employees goes above and beyond to deliver on our connected mission, responding to the needs of our students, academic partners, businesses and society.
Over the past 5 years, we have transformed ourselves into a Gold standard provider of teaching and learning, gaining historically high positions in the UK league tables. With digital expertise being at our core, we strive for diversity in all its forms and play an important function in our local communities and regional economies.
About the function
The Centre for Biomechanics and Rehabilitation Technologies, School of Health, Science and Wellbeing at Staffordshire University is seeking to appoint a talented qualitative postgraduate researcher to support the delivery of a research project funded by the West Midlands Clinical Research Network. This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months.
This project aims to cocreate a unique multisector ecosystem for robust, effective, and inclusive research and innovation (R&I) for diabetic foot ulceration (DFU). Special emphasis will be given to first ulcers to make our region the first in the country that can support research in this extremely important but underdeveloped area. Preventing first ulcers is the most effective way to prevent diabetic foot amputations, therefore focusing on this area can maximise the potential benefit for patients.
The post holder will be expected to actively engage with stakeholders and patients to produce a baseline dataset and to support the co-creation of recommendations for data recording/sharing and inclusive recruitment in R&I.
You will be working with Associate Professor Panos Chatzistergos and Professor Nachi Chockalingam to develop baseline data and systems for robust, effective, and inclusive R&I for the avoidance and management of DFU.
To achieve that, this project will focus on patients, on the professionals tasked with recording, storing, and managing their clinical data and on the forms, systems and processes that are in place to support them in this task. This will enable us to identify weaknesses and missed opportunities in current data recording/sharing practice and to suggest targeted changes. The perspective of frontline clinicians and patients will be extremely valuable to ensure the developed recommendations can be implemented into clinical practice.
Engagement with underserved communities is an important aspect of this work. These activities will directly inform and strengthen research grant applications that will be submitted by the team as part of this project. To ensure region-/nation-wide sustained benefits, the focus will be on the cocreation of recommendations for effective engagement not simply on the establishment of a PPIE group dedicated to DFU.
