Classical Studies at The Open University is recruiting a new lecturer to play a key function in strengthening and building the inclusive and forward-facing Classical Studies education offered and contribute to our research profile. The discipline offers a stimulating and supportive intellectual environment for anyone interested in working across different fields of Classical Studies and contributing to the thriving academic community in the Discipline, School and Faculty.
Classical Studies modules aim to provide students with strong analytical expertise and a range of perspectives on the ancient world. The prosperous candidate will work in a team presenting and producing innovative distance-learning resources across our curriculum, focusing on our degrees in BA (Hons) Classical Studies and MA in Classical Studies, along with other interdisciplinary qualifications.
In addition to contributing to teaching within the School of Arts and Humanities, the post-holder will be expected to conduct independent research, seek external research funding and engage with knowledge exchange, impact and outreach activities.

expertise and practice essential to the function include:
   » practice of teaching at a range of undergraduate levels in Classical Studies, as well as at Master's level
   » A profile of teaching excellence in Latin literature and language
   » The capability and readiness to contribute to the production, maintenance and updating of Classical Studies modules and/or the Faculty's Level 1 Arts interdisciplinary curriculum
   » An knowledge of the latest pedagogical techniques for teaching Classical Studies in HE, including the issues involved in supporting and delivering distance learning programmes
   » Potential for research excellence. This should demonstrate the capability to produce work of international or world-leading quality
