Job Opportunity: Senior Research Associate AiDesign Lab: Small Scale Robotics:Job description:Job location: Battersea The Royal College of Art is the UK's only entirely postgraduate institution of art and design, dedicated to teaching, research and knowledge exchange with industry. Purpose of the Post: Efficient navigation in dynamic and unknown environments is one of the fundamental challenges in mobile robotics. We are pursuing to appoint a Senior Research Associate to support the Principal Investigator in the research project - ?Small Scale Robotics?. The project focuses on modelling and optimisation of robotics navigation in dynamic environment using AI-powered digital and physical twins in collaboration with the RCA's Robotics Group. You will be part of a dynamic team of experts in computer science and robotics responsible for design and development of a digital twin for training, simulation, and optimisation of multibody agents in different applications. The centre benefits from strong partnerships with domain industry partners, dedicated research labs and computing facilities, and comprehensive tech-focused training courses that are available to the post holder through their appointment. » The prosperous candidate must be able to demonstrate at least one of the following » PhD in a significant field (design research, HCI) » or equivalent level of practice in a different sector » or a Masters degree and significant practice in research projects » Evidence of producing quality research outputs significant to the career stage and discipline. For example, at least two outputs in peer reviewed academic journals; or at least one output independent of PhD manager. » Evidenced practice of contributing to and reporting on projects. » Demonstrable knowledge of good practice in research conduct (including in research ethics, research integrity and handling research data). » Demonstrable capability to be a collaborative member of a broader team, working constructively with senior staff and supporting the work of less practiced staff or students involved in projects. » Evidenced flexibility and confidence to tackle a wide variety of tasks, with an open, pro-active, creative and problem-solving approach. » Evidenced excellent writing, communication and presentation expertise, able to adopt an appropriate style for a range of specialist and non-specialist audiences. » Evidenced strong interpersonal and team-working expertise. » Genuine commitment to the aims of the project and of the Centre. » Evidenced practice of collaborative projects, preferably involving HE/industry collaborations in robotics and AI. » Knowledge of reinforcement learning and artificial neural network. » Knowledge of Python for machine learning. » Hands-on practice of programming language (C, C++, Python) » Hands-on practice of graphics programming (e.g., OpenGL) The Senior Research Associate will be required to spend time in Hong Kong at least once a year for the employment period.
