We are pursuing to appoint a appropriate candidate to a permanent lectureship in Philosophy at Swansea University's Department of Politics, Philosophy, and International Relations, which is located in the newly formed School of Social Sciences. Philosophy has a long and important tradition at Swansea University. The philosophy degree was re-launched in September 2019 and thus the post holder will have the chance to help to shape the development of the degree programme. The current philosophy staff have primary skills in contemporary political theory; applied ethics; phenomenology; the philosophy of emotion; feminism and gender politics; and economic justice.
We are pursuing candidates who are effective and innovative teachers for domestic and international students. The prosperous candidate will support and extend the continued development of teaching, undergraduate and postgraduate supervision, and scholarship in the Department of Politics, Philosophy and International Relations at Swansea. The post-holder will contribute to the delivery of our BA programmes in Philosophy and PPE. The appointee will also be expected to engage in their own research activities and be capable of contributing to the research activities of the Department and the university more generally.
The area of specialisation for the post is open. However, we especially welcome applications from those with teaching practice and/or research interests in philosophy of mind, metaphysics or epistemology. The capability to contribute to teaching in continental philosophy may also be an advantage. The prosperous candidate may also be asked to develop new modules that will enrich the existing module offering on the UG Philosophy programme.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Dr Paddy McQueen the Programme Director for BA Philosophy (paddy.mcqueen@swansea.ac.uk).
